Background:
We were called out to assess this small job due to non-compliance with the building codes. An "expert" balustrade company installed this and left never to be seen again, despite the customer's best attempts.
So what is wrong with this balustrade?
1. Design is incorrect, forcing flight handrail to lever the knock-in fittings out of post tube.
2. Flight rail is 200mm too high (causing above problem).
3. Span between posts on the flight is too great, and requires a dropper.
4. Mirror-finished end-fittings used but are mis-matched with the satin-finished tube.
5. No wall plate or terminal post used against plaster.
As the customer had already spent their money we agreed to re-design and re-build their balustrade using their existing components where possible. Tension is now possible and compliance has been obtained.
